How LED Grow Light Works on Plant Growth

Light plays a crucial role in plants without which most plants would not survive. Photosynthesis is needed by plants to break down food in the form of nutrients from the soil. To kick-start, this process, there is a need for energy from the light.

Plants absorb light (artificial or sunlight) through chlorophyll and combine with carbon dioxide and water to form glucose with oxygen coming out as waste.

There are some adverse effects of lack of light on the growth of plants which include leaves withering and falling off and leaves bending towards a source of light.

Too much of something is poisonous, and the same applies to light. Too much of light in plant growth may cause the leaves to have brown patches and looking pale and dry.

To understand how light and especially LED light in our casework on plant growth, we need to understand that light is made up of different colors which affect the growth of a plant differently.

It is therefore vital that we examine the role of these colors on plant growth.
The blue color of light helps in reducing the space between branches along the main stem of a plant and increasing the chlorophyll level in plants thereby making leaves appear green.

It is also needed during the seeding phase of a plant and the initial plant growth. This is due to its effect on chlorophyll which is highly required during photosynthesis at this stage.

Another role that the blue light plays is during the vegetative phase of growth by increasing the number of leaves in a plant.

Purple as a color of light is needed by a plant during its growth since it has a lot of energy which a plant highly needs during photosynthesis and also to transport nutrients.

As you move up the spectrum of light, we have a green color which is efficient during photosynthesis as it is responsible for the color of leaves being green due to the high amount of chlorophyll.

Therefore not including this color in your grow room may hurt the growth of your plant.
The white color which is a result of a combination of various colors such as green, red and blue is useful in the growth of a plant as it is rich in different colors which are needed to grow a plant within a grow room.

Red light plays a vital role in the growth of your plant due to its longer wavelength. It is crucial for a plant to be exposed to red light during the flowering phase. During this phase, red color increases the number of fruits and seeds a plant produces.

Another way of looking at ways in which LED grow lights work during the growth of a plant is the intensity with which it has been applied to plants in the grow room.

Focusing different energy of light at various stages of plant growth can result in optimum growth and high yields.

For instance, targeting the maximum required amount of blue color during the vegetative stage has the effect of increasing the vegetative yields whereas concentrating ceiling needed red color has the effect of growing fruit and seed yields during the flowering stage.

It is therefore important to expose your plant to a full spectrum of light to achieve optimum growth.
