One of these ways is through the use of LED grow lights to nurture plants meant for human consumption.LED grow lights refer to lights that are used to simulate sunlight for plants that are normally grown indoors. They replace the conventional sunlight by providing the plants with the full spectrum of lights needed for photosynthesis.
Full spectrum in grow lights refer to grow lights which normally produce a broad, continuous and significant light across most of the Photo synthetically Active Radiation( PAR). The light spectrum is crucial in the working of a grow light. Through the different stages of a plant growth, they are normally subjected to different light spectrum hence an effective grow light should have the different light spectrum needed for growth.
There are two main colors that are frequently used. Red and blue or red and orange. The choice depends on the plants to grow and the farmer. alternatively, one can get a bulb that has a full spectrum so that the plant can experience all the growth phases.
For LED lights, light that is red and blue in color is important as it facilitates the growth of healthy plants. Red is easily absorbed by plants due to its high absorption range of between 650-670 manometer as compared to the absorption range of plants of 660 manometers. Under correct and high usage, it allows the plant to flower and bear fruits and seeds quickly.
Blue on the other hand stimulates leaf growth in plants and as such it is usually used extensively for the growth of vegetables.
The use of LED grow lights in plant growth have a variety of advantages as compared to the conventional way of planting. Less heat is produced by LED lights hence preventing the plants from getting scorched or killed thus ensuring healthy plant growth. In cases of extreme sunlight, plants normally get scorched or killed due to the excessive heat that reaches the plants.
The use of fluorescent bulbs in planting is normally associated with noise production which is quite disturbing as compared to LED grow light which are noise free. This is an advantage for an individual who wants to start indoor farming.
The use of LED grow lights is associated with the low use of light meaning that there is maximum energy conservation. This ensures that there is minimum energy consumption.They are also durable with a life span of seven years hence ensuring that the user gets maximum benefit while at the same time saving on resources.
The efficiency of LED grow lights is high which is attributed to the emission of PAR which facilitates the growth of healthy plants therefore giving yields quickly.
One thing is for sure though, these grow lights holds the key for future farming.They can be applied on large scale and help reduce the food shortage being experienced in several parts of the world.
